What Is Fast Fashion?
Do you think $7.95 is cheap for a top? Well I do. Because no one should be able to by a top for that cheap. If it is that cheap its most likely to have fast fashion involved. What is fast fashion? well it is fashion that is made poorly or has impact on people or the environment. What I mean by impact is that people have to work 14-18 hours a day or bad chemicals are released into the water which kills sea life. There are heaps of fast fashion companies. Some of those companies are Shein, H&M and loads more.
The impact is huge on people who work at fast fashion companies. Lots of fast fashion companies use forced labour or even child labour most of them work for 14-18 hours and are paid a few cents a garment. Some of them work in bad conditions when dying jeans with horrible chemicals which could give them a type of cancer or worse.
The impact on the environment is terrible. Trends are a huge problem for the environment and some trends don't last very long. So when that trends finished you just throw your clothes away and it takes hundreds of years to break down.
Well its not just the plant that dies garment workers do to. In factor fires, collapsing factors, suicide, chemicals, etc. Its horrible and NO ONE should feel like they have to kill themselves to get away from the pressure of having to make heaps of garments a day.
But there are solutions: Buy less from fast fashion companies and buy from op shops (second hand shop), Eco-friendly brands, etc. Buy better quality instead of quantity. Dry them in front of the fire, heater, sun or just the air instead of the dryer. You could also give your old clothes to charity or op shops. buy local. Rent your clothes. Borrow from friends or family. Go to or organize a clothing swap.
When buying clothes check what brand you are buying from and see if it Eco-friendly. If you want to find out if it is Eco-friendly there is this website/app called Good On You and It will tell you if its and good brand to shop from.
